Kalpavriksha Sustainable Development Society works to ensure that geography, income, and lack of access do not limit a young person's future — while partnering with institutions to advance sustainable, research-backed solutions for rural communities.
Kalpavriksha Sustainable Development Society was founded with a simple but urgent belief: talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not.
"Talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not — and we exist to bridge that gap."
Kalpavriksha Sustainable Development SocietyAcross rural and underserved communities, especially in the hills of Uttarakhand, young people often grow up with limited access to technology, future-ready learning, mentorship, and platforms that allow them to imagine and pursue larger possibilities. At the same time, communities face interconnected challenges around sustainability, resilience, health, livelihoods, and local innovation.
Kalpavriksha exists to respond to both realities. We work at the intersection of education, technology, leadership, research, and community development to create pathways that help young people and rural communities move from exclusion to capability, from capability to opportunity, and from opportunity to lasting impact.
Kalpavriksha emerged from a deep concern about the unequal access to digital learning and future-facing opportunities available to students in rural Uttarakhand.
Rural students were being left behind as technology, education, and employment pathways rapidly changed.
Kalpavriksha began creating immersive opportunities in digital literacy, coding, and confidence-building for underserved students.
The organisation evolved to include computational thinking, AI readiness, leadership, changemaker skills, mentorship, and student-led innovation.
Scholarship opportunities, alumni development, and continued mentorship began connecting programme experiences with deeper life opportunities.
Kalpavriksha expanded into field implementation and research collaboration, including its work with IIT Roorkee under the NMHS project in Yamkeshwar.
Uttarakhand is a land of extraordinary human potential, cultural depth, and ecological significance. Yet many of its rural and hilly communities continue to face layered barriers: educational inequality, migration pressures, uneven infrastructure, limited access to advanced opportunities, and exposure to climate and livelihood vulnerabilities.
At the same time, the world is being reshaped by artificial intelligence, automation, digital platforms, and new models of work and learning. Without deliberate investment in rural capability, existing inequalities risk becoming even deeper.
Kalpavriksha believes Uttarakhand can become a model for a different future — one where rural youth are digitally confident, intellectually curious, socially responsible, and equipped to build solutions for their own communities.
A digitally capable, socially conscious, and sustainable rural Uttarakhand where every young person can access the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to shape a better future.
To empower underserved youth and rural communities through future-ready education, leadership development, opportunity pathways, and research-backed solutions that advance inclusive and sustainable transformation.
To ensure that rural potential is not constrained by geography, income, or access — and that communities become active participants in solving the challenges that affect their future.
Every child deserves exposure to the tools, ideas, and pathways that can help them realise their potential — regardless of where they were born or how much their family earns.
Digital skills and AI literacy should help underserved learners become creators, problem-solvers, and confident participants in the future — not passive consumers of it.
True learning develops curiosity, resilience, leadership, empathy, and the courage to act. We design programmes around the whole person, not just academic outcomes.
Sustainable change emerges when communities participate in identifying problems, shaping solutions, and owning outcomes — not when solutions are imposed from outside.
Students, teachers, schools, mentors, universities, donors, and communities must work together to create durable pathways of change. No single programme can do this alone.
Kalpavriksha's work follows a simple but powerful transformation logic: when underserved learners gain access to meaningful exposure, capability-building, mentorship, and opportunity pathways, they are more likely to develop confidence, ambition, and the capacity to contribute to their communities.
Digital exposure, immersive learning environments, community centres, and inclusive programmes for those furthest from opportunity.
Digital literacy, computational thinking, AI readiness, communication, problem-solving, leadership, and resilience.
Mentorship, advanced programmes, scholarship pathways, expert networks, and institutional support for longer journeys.
Students begin to see themselves as creators, leaders, and changemakers — not just recipients of education.
Innovation projects, peer leadership, Digital Gurukuls, community engagement, and long-term social mobility.
"Our goal is not only to help students do better within the existing system, but to help them imagine, build, and lead beyond it."
Kalpavriksha's work is organised across three interconnected pillars — each reinforcing and multiplying the others.
We design programmes that help underserved students build digital confidence, future skills, leadership, and long-term opportunity pathways — from first exposure through to scholarship and career readiness.
We support schools, educators, and community learning systems so that rural students receive sustained exposure to emerging technologies and 21st-century education.
We partner with institutions and innovators to support field implementation, pilot community-centred solutions, and generate learnings for scalable rural transformation.
Every choice we make — from programme structure to partnership model — reflects a deliberate commitment to depth, continuity, and community ownership rather than one-time exposure.
Our work focuses on students and communities often furthest from emerging opportunities — not those already on a trajectory.
Digital skills matter, but so do confidence, leadership, empathy, resilience, and purpose. We design for the whole person.
Bootcamps, mentorship, scholarships, Gurukuls, and partnerships together create a longer journey of support — not a single event.
Impact reporting, research partnerships, and thoughtful programme design help us improve over time and hold ourselves accountable.
Our work is shaped by the aspirations, constraints, and strengths of rural Uttarakhand — not by external assumptions about what communities need.
Kalpavriksha is guided by a leadership team that brings together experience across technology, public policy, education, research, data, entrepreneurship, and social development — united by a shared commitment to equity and opportunity.
With eight years of experience across technology, public policy, and entrepreneurship, Abhinav leads Kalpavriksha's vision for digital inclusion, future-ready education, and equitable opportunity for underserved learners and rural communities. He founded Kalpavriksha to address the deep inequality in access to quality education and technology in rural Uttarakhand — and to build lasting, evidence-backed pathways for young people who have the talent but not the opportunity.
